Virgil Abloh continues his investigation of the male wardrobe with Louis Vuitton‘s Pre-Fall 2020 men’s collection. As the range is rooted in the classic codes of menswear, Abloh explores tradition, specifically a time period when boys become men learning the ins and outs of conventional corporate attire.
Tailoring is fitted in the new Louis Vuitton men’s collection, as silhouettes become more casual and contemporary through technique and fabrication. For example, camouflage takes over a corduroy denim suit, reversible coat, and leather varsity jacket, while an evening jacket takes on the shape of a camouflage bomber with matching pants. Additionally, the house’s monogram flowers are given a multicolor makeover, featured on an ikat windbreaker, intarsia sweater, and shorts.
More luxe garments arrive in the form of a classic blouson in dark brown deerskin and a mink jacket with an eclectic Louis Vuitton letter motif. A silver grey puffa jacket and a dark grey field jacket are then decorated with a reimagined version of Louis Vuitton’s heritage flower signature.
Complementing Abloh’s ready-to-wear styles is a selection of eye-catching accessories and footwear. A pinstripe harness is matched accordingly with the stripes of suits, while a monogram penny loafer and hybrid derby elevate virtually any ensemble. Other footwear entries include a worker boot in leather with monogram panel detailing and a SS20 sneaker in technical metal and mesh.
A proper Louis Vuitton collection wouldn’t be complete without the addition of sought-after baggage. For Pre-Fall 2020 we find the classic keepall appearing in monogram with multicolor mackintosh taping. A small soft trunk is then offered in the collection’s camouflage motif.
