Everyone needs a coffee break. For some, that means actually drinking something laden with caffeine to push you through to the end of the day. For others, that break has little to do with java, and much more to do with a nice distraction from whatever is on your plate that particular day. According to the Scientific American, “Downtime replenishes the brain’s stores of attention and motivation, encourages productivity and creativity, and is essential to both achieve our highest levels of performance and simply form stable memories in everyday life.”

Our new recurring segment, Coffee Break, aims to give you just that. Small — albeit worthwhile slices of video content from the web — that should give you exactly what you need when you need to focus on something other than the task at hand. The long gestating Tupac Shakur biopic, All Eyez on Me, enters theaters today on the anniversary of his birthday and promises an honest and enlightening look at the life of the deceased emcee who would be 47 if he were still alive today.

While he will always be best known for his music career, his turn as an actor in films like Gang Related, Above the Rim, Juice and Poetic Justice revealed his immense talents in front of the cameras.

Poet and President Medal of Freedom winner, Maya Angelou, provided a cameo in John Singleton's Poetic Justice. While on set, she encountered an enraged Tupac — although she didn't know who the rapper/actor was.

Regardless, she provided council to him that was so moving that he was reduced to tears — revealing a pensive side to the rapper rarely seen by those outside of his inner circle.

Watch Angelou recall the interaction in vivid and rich detail above.
