For those au fait with trail running, you’ll be well aware that when it comes to winter, it becomes another sport entirely. Firm ground turns to slush, heat changes to daggering rain, and fun, in most cases, turns to tolerance.

When this time of the year comes, a sturdy pair of sneakers fit-for-purpose etches itself to the top of the want list. And norda hears you.

The Canadian trail label — founded by Willamina and Nick Martire in early 2020 — has become a household name amongst trail runners and hikers in its relatively short lifespan, even equipping runners at UTMB, the world's most unforgiving trail race.

The 001 — an apt title for the brand’s first silhouette — has become widely recognized across the scene since its inception.

Crafted with a unique Dyneema fabric (featherweight, almost tent-like), a lightweight upper sits atop a chunky Vibram outsole. In truth, it's a relatively subtle-looking sneaker, but maybe that’s the key to its success?

Nevertheless, this winter norda is upping the ante with its 001 by making it more equipped for winter.

One sees the sneaker doused in “Stealth Black” and infused with a G+ Graphene membrane for thermoregulation, while and the other arrives in a gray and orange combination and houses the same graphene membrane with added carbide spikes for traction on icy and snowy trails.

The 001 has had quite the 2022. Following a collaboration with Parisian running label Satisfy earlier this year, the duo reunited in September before linking with fellow Canadian’s Ciele Athletics the following month.

Sure, norda’s 001 might not be the most eye-catching sneaker (especially if you’re opting for “Stealth Black”), but it’s likely one of the most innovative, that’s for sure. Roll on, winter!
