A far cry from last year's version (and every year prior, for that matter), Pirelli unveils their 2016 calendar shot by the talented Annie Leibovitz. First previewed two months ago, this year's installment features some of the world's most influential women in beautiful black-and-white portraits.
In total, the roll call includes Yoko Ono, Patti Smith, Serena Williams, Fran Lebowitz, Amy Schumer, Tavi Gevinson, Ava DuVernay, Natalia Vodianova, Agnes Gund, Kathleen Kennedy, Mellody Hobson, Shirin Neshat and Yao Chen.
Regarding her approach to the shoot, Leibovitz related:
I started to think about the roles that women play, women who have achieved something. I wanted to make a classic set of portraits. I thought that the women should look strong but natural and I decided to keep it a very simple exercise of shooting in the studio. This calendar is so completely different. It is a departure. The idea was not to have any pretense in these pictures and be very straightforward.
The result is nothing short of stunning and while the calendar won't be for sale - it's strictly given to an exclusive group of 20,000 “V.I.P.’s, musicians, politicians and royalty” - you can check out the shoot in all of its classic glory above.
