News has emerged that Kim Jong-hyun, lead singer of popular and influential South Korean boy band SHINee, has passed away at the age of 27.
According to The Korean Herald, the singer was reportedly found unconscious at his rented apartment on Monday, following a report filed by his sister. After a medical team performed CPR, Kim was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Although no official statement has been made by the band's label, SM Entertainment, police are investigating his death as a suspected suicide. Fans of Kim have already flocked to Twitter to pay tribute to the late entertainer.
Since their debut in 2005, SHINee has enjoyed huge outside of South Korea — their homeland — producing five Japanese albums as well as recently embarking on their first North American tour.
