Highsnobiety

When looking at the last 50 years of American culture, few names are more iconic than Keith Haring and Tommy Hilfiger– the two Michaels (Jordan and Jackson) may be their only actual competition. As staple figures from the dynamic creative scene of 80s New York City, the two icons laid a foundation in their respective lanes, creating distinct iconography and timeless aesthetics that maintain relevancy across generations.

Despite operating in separate worlds, Haring and Hilfiger championed freedom of self-expression in their work. The American brand’s vision to “Welcome All” aligns seamlessly with the renowned artist’s signature “Art Is For Everybody” message, encouraging the masses to channel their creative energy into something truly authentic to share with the world.

It was never about “how it’s done” for Haring, but more so just the act of doing, freely interpreting life in a way that feels true to self by showing off genuine and unique perspectives.

In honor of their shared mission for inclusivity and the late artist’s undeniable role in shaping American art culture, Tommy Hilfiger uses Haring’s optimistic energy as inspiration for its latest collection, continuing to promote individualism by tastefully merging two significant pieces of Americana.

For Tommy x Keith Haring, the NYC street-prep brand employs the artist’s unmistakable graphic expressions on staple Tommy Jeans silhouettes, showcasing the vibrant life of Haring’s artistry that made him a foundational piece for American street art.

“Keith Haring is a New York icon and represents the city’s creative spirit,” says Hilfiger. “This collection channels positivity and brings Keith’s unmistakable energy to modern-day prep.”

As a collection that’s sure to leave both hipster art nerds and vintage thrift bros sweating, the 30-piece capsule features key motifs from Haring’s most notable works displayed on staple street looks. The dancing dog and chenille heart face appear on a vintage-inspired varsity jacket while . Rounding out the collection, the iconic radiant baby and other symbols synonymous with the famed American artist are embossed on hoodies, t-shirts, and shorts, adding a lively touch to relaxed-fit silhouettes.

To celebrate Haring’s bright aura, an archival exhibition will be hosted at the globally recognized Los Angeles-based gallery, The Broad. Running from May 27 to October 8, the 120-piece exhibit explores Haring’s life and artistic practices, further diving into the world of the imaginative and idealistic painter.
