Five years after being banned from the UK, Tyler, The Creator won the award for Best International Male at the 2020 BRIT Awards last night. During his acceptance speech, Tyler decided to give a personal shoutout to the woman responsible for his five-year ban, former Prime Minister, Theresa May.

“I want to give a special shout-out to someone who I hold dear to my heart, who made it that I couldn’t come to this country five years ago,” the rapper said after accepting his award. “I know she’s sitting at home pissed off. Thank you Theresa May.”

You can watch the iconic moment below.

In 2015 Tyler was detained and barred from entering the UK. May was the home secretary at the time and used anti-terrorism legislation to enforce the ban, citing his lyrics as dangerous. “Coming to the UK is a privilege, and we expect those who come here to respect our shared values,” she said at the time.

Now Tyler, whose ban was lifted last year, is having the last laugh. Since the awards ceremony aired, the internet has been reveling in how Tyler put May on blast, with the moment quickly trending on Twitter. We rounded up some of the best reactions to Tyler's iconic speech below.
