Venom

The first social media reactions to Venom have arrived — and the Twitter reviews have been largely negative, give or take a few dissenters. Some have called the movie “a complete failure” and “Catwoman-level bad,” urging people to cancel their pre-booked tickets. Other reactions are more nuanced, acknowledging the film’s flaws but praising Tom Hardy’s performance and the buddy dynamic between him and his Venom alter ego.

Early alarm bells might have sounded when Hardy was interviewed by ComicsExplained and responded to a question about his favorite scene in the film by saying, “There are scenes that aren’t in this movie. There are, like, 30, 40 minutes’ worth of scenes that aren’t in this movie… all of them, yeah. Like mad puppeteering scenes, dark comedy scenes. You know what I mean? They just never made it in.”

Hardy has already signed on for two more Venom movies, with the caveat that the trilogy will only go ahead if the first film is a hit. “We’ll see what people’s responses are to it,” the English actor told Total Film magazine. Judging from these early reactions, that trilogy is definitely not a done deal.
