Donatella Versace looked at modern-day masculinity for her house’s SS19 show. Her opening salvo was in pretty familiar men’s territory — striped power suits and jeans — but soon stepped into animal hides and eye-popping patterns. Nothing new for the house, of course, but for most of the world’s men, dressing that bold is still out of the question.

The house revisited its foundations in tailoring — a welcome retreat from the never-ending luxe-street cliché that fashion week can’t give up — and threw florals, crisp, all-white looks and the house’s go-to baroque patterns into the mix.

A women’s capsule collection was added into the mix, with Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid as its show-stopping ambassadors. Versace encouraged her male customer to dabble in that too — she strapped some of her guys with tiny bags, taken from the women’s line, but slung across the shoulder.

Flashy, confident, and just loads of fun, Versace SS19 was everything you want an Italian luxury house to be.
