Today, is a Starboy’s birthday. In honor of the occasion The Weeknd dropped visuals for the single, “Reminder,” off of his Juno award-nominated album, Starboy. Not one to do things by small measure, the R&B powerhouse called upon a crew of celebrity friends including A$AP Rocky, Drake, YG, Belly, Bryson Tiller, French Montana and Travis Scott, to make cameo appearances.
If there’s one thing the Starboy album made clear it was that The Weeknd has found his stride, and a definitive voice that he knows people value. “Recommend play my song on the radio. You too busy trying to find that blue-eyed soul,” he sings while scenes of him and his crew rolling through his home city like returning heroes unfold in a surreal sequence.
It’s a different Weeknd than his mercurial House of Balloons days. This Weeknd has fought his way to the top and now all he wants to do is enjoy the fruits of his labor and indulge in some large-scale hedonism. In the video, that naturally translates to fancy cars, private jets, a celebrity entourage, and lots of beautiful women. Oh, there’s also a Hollywood sign and palm tree that have spontaneously combusted – guess that’s what happens when you’re just that fire?
After a quiet end to 2016, Future is back on the move with a self-titled album. You can find out more here.
