Founded in 2014, you’d be forgiven for thinking that Axel Arigato is a label still finding its feet. You would, however, be wrong. Proof comes in the form of Axel Arigato SS22. While the label has, first and foremost, made a space for itself in the world of luxury sneakers as well as expanding into the realm of luxury loungewear, SS22 presents the biggest leap yet. It’s an assertion from the relatively young label that it’s ready for the next step. Or, rather, it’s already taken the next step.

Axel Arigato SS22 — entitled Until We Meet Again — is characterized by a re-energized shift in the use of color and texture without departing from the underlying minimalism that has defined the label so far. New fabrics and silhouettes arrive to redefine what it means to have a modern wardrobe as well as illustrate the closer focus on the brand’s RTW offering.

A host of new footwear silhouettes accompany the growing RTW collection. The two main categories of the collection, sneakers and RTW, come with a strong, symbiotic relationship, honing in on what the customer desires: a seamless interplay between all aspects of their wardrobe.

Split into chaptered stories which will release via the brand’s Drop of the Week schedule, the first of two chapters online now, Axel Arigato SS22 touches on a range of different narratives through texture, palette, and cut variations. High-end loungewear, knits, and uniform proportions link each distinct chapter together, though, amounting to a persuasive argument for Axel Arigato dressing you through all of life’s different occasions.

Key pieces come in the form of varsity jackets, deconstructed wool coats, and an impressive range of knitwear from heavyweight jumpers to lightweight dresses. Wearability, longevity, and ease were the keywords in the design stages of Until We Meet Again, so that despite the focus on outerwear and knitwear, the collection abides by a “seasonless” aesthetic.

In terms of Axel Arigato’s specialty, several new sneakers enter the SS22 collection. The Hooper is a highlight. This vegan leather lace-up stands in similar style to the brand’s signature Clean 90 but with a thicker sole unit and sporty perforations as well as a new ‘A’ script logo. Away from the remit of sneakers, the Magma sandal is a clear sign of a new brand direction. Made entirely from bio-based plastic from sugarcane and recycled rubber, it comes in slipper and flip-flop options.

New colorways of returning favorites breathe new life into the older styles. The Marathon Runner gets a dip-dye update in vivid pink, orange, and neon yellow while the Genesis Vintage Runner, Aeon, and Dice silhouettes are reintroduced in the new-season palette.
