Last night, Drake was spotted wearing what appeared to be a pair of Kanye West’s YEEZY Season 4 Military Boots while celebrating long time friend and OVO assistant Mark Robinson’s birthday.
On the surface it may not be particularly interesting that a rapper co-signed another rapper’s brand. But when one considers that Drake is contracted to Jordan Brand and that news emerged late last month that he’s not entirely happy and could be switching to adidas, this footwear choice becomes much bolder.
Of course, the YEEZY brand is not entirely affiliated with adidas, as only the first season and the co-branded footwear line is produced by the German sportswear giant. The subsequent seasons, as well as the boots Drake was wearing, were produced independently.
Still, Kanye West works very closely with adidas and therefore his YEEZY brand – while not officially – still has a small affiliation to Nike and Jordan Brand’s biggest rival.
The picture above was originally posted to Drake’s Instagram account but seems to have been deleted. While there are photos of the celebrations on Drizzy’s page, none show the YEEZY Season 4 boots.
