Very literally translated as “Depressed Rich Kids,” LA-based brand, Enfants Riches Déprimés, has enjoyed much success in the celebrity circles of Future, Kanye West, Travis Scott and many more. Bracketed by some frightening prices, and super limited quantities, the brand has done well to align with a higher epoch in fashion consumption following its inception in 2012 by designer Henry Levy.
Having pioneered the re-purposing trend, through the application of any number of punk influences to blank customs, such as T-shirts, vintage leather jackets and the Vans pictured below, Enfants Riches Déprimés might be likened to the likes of Vivienne Westwood, without necessarily carrying with it the same, unshakeable reputation for being a serious fashion house.
Having repurposed the affordable Vans Sk8-Hi silhouette, in much the same, understated way Vetements did with its Hanes collaboration, the otherwise $60 – $80 pair of sneakers, has now rocketed to reach an astonishing $590. And if you think that is expensive, the brand is even selling sterling silver lighter caps for $125 a pop.
Apart from the application of a few roughly stitched punk-inspired patches and typographic tongue branding over a black canvas upper, very little has actually been done to update the integral design of the silhouette itself.
