Jacquemus Takes New York
Jacquemus is on the move. The French fashion label's next step towards world domination takes it to New York, as it plants a flag in another major fashion capital.
Highsnobiety is first to reveal that Jacquemus is preparing to open a NYC flagship store in the near future, as indicated by unmistakable pink signage placed into the windows of a vacant, graffiti-tagged storefront sitting at 143 Spring St, formerly the home of Crocs and a fast-fashion brand or two.
As you can see, the sole affirmation of Jacquemus' forthcoming presence in New York is its logo and "Coming Soon" text.
When reached by Highsnobiety for comment a Jacquemus representative declined to comment further than saying to, simply, "Stay tuned."
Jacquemus has previously dabbled with pop-ups in global metropolises but they were typically hosted by partner retailers or small-scale happenings, as opposed to actual storefronts.
Further details about Jacquemus NYC are all unknown. Is this to be a permanent store? A pop-up? When does it open to the public? All a mystery for now.
But, if any seasons are Jacquemus' seasons, spring and summer must be them. The brand's signature slinky dresses, straw hats, and breezy shirts are inextricable from warm, sunny weather and it seems most likely that Jacquemus' New York store would open in time for summer, at the latest.
Jacquemus already operates several directly-managed stores across the globe, including boutiques on Paris' ritzy Avenue Montaigne and Saint Tropez. Further, Jacquemus is stocked at many of the world's tastemaking retailers, including the many luxury department stores in New York: Bergdorf Goodman, Nordstrom, Saks, and even Dover Street Market.
But this New York store, located in the bustling SoHo neighborhood, would be not only Jacquemus' first American store but its first outside of Europe and the Middle East.
The new space is reflective of Jacquemus' rise.
Jacquemus has never not been hot but the past year was especially so. It launched a wedding collection, kids' clothes, and more buzzy Nike collaborations. Kendall Jenner starred in a saucy holiday campaign.
In early May, a new Jacquemus office opened in Paris, looking more like an art gallery than a place for fashion business.
Demand for Jacquemus has been so high that Lyst, a self-described fashion technology company that publishes quarterly industry reports, recently ranked its "hotness" higher than that of Burberry, Balenciaga, Louis Vuitton, and Dior.
Indeed, if there was a right time for Jacquemus to expand internationally, it'd have to be now.
