Editor's Notes: Building on the legacy of its 99x series, New Balance has a new model added to its hype-filled roster: the 9060.

Taking the late Steve Jobs' favorite sneaker, the 990, and combining it with elements borrowed from early 2000s runners, the shoe is a mishmash of NB's output during the Y2K years delivered in the form of a chunky sneaker with a standout diamond-shaped outsole.

First presented through a Joe Freshgoods collaboration that plastered the model in pastel pinks and blues, it was officially unveiled to us through its first standalone release last month. That neutral-colored sneaker, presented through a lookbook with NB's latest ambassador Amine, is now joined by another more Fall-appropriate colorway.

The second standalone 9060 to come out of the label's Boston headquarters delivers a darker-hued alternative. Dark brown and black panels make up the mixed-material upper, while a light beige mesh on the inside of each shoe and on the sole unit provides some continuity with the shoe's first-ever colorway.

There is no doubt that this is the first of many colorways that we will see from the 9060 as the American footwear label tries to emulate the resounding success it has had with the other recent models added to its selection, such as the 550 or 327.

So far, it is on the right track, having already been spotted on the runway during Mowalola's triumphant return to the fashion calendar in Paris and its first colorway selling out almost instantly. At the very least, it has established itself as a model to keep an eye out for.
