Model: Air Max 97 “Neon Seoul”
Key Features: The sneaker features a matte black base livened with vibrant colors and contours inspired by the taeguk symbol on the South Korean flag. The customary full-length Max Air unit in the midsole completes the look.
Release Date: Today, April 13.
Editor’s Notes: Last year, Nike announced the winners of its Nike: On Air challenge, which tapped creatives all over the world to try their hand at redesigning some of the Swoosh’s most popular silhouettes. Gwang Shin of South Korea was one of six winners chosen to turn his concept into reality.
Inspired by his hometown of Seoul and its wash of neon signs, his rendition of the Air Max 97 features bright neon accents that contrast heavily with the matte black base. A full-size Swoosh (rather than the usual mini Swoosh) on the side adds a bit of exaggerated branding.
