Editor’s Notes: Although no official announcement has been made yet, it looks like Drake’s relationship with Nike has moved on significantly since the Drizzy-to-adidas rumors begun to heat up earlier this year.
It recently came to light that the entertainer had a hand in designing a hip-hop mixtape-inspired Nike Air Max Plus. Sean McDowell, the original designer behind the silhouette, shared shots of the sneaker and revealed Drake’s involvement, writing, “Drake’s new spin on the OG” in the caption.
As is well documented, hip-hop and sneakers have a long and storied history. Believed to be the first official musician and sneaker partnerships, Run-D.M.C. cosigned the adidas Superstar in 1986. That partnership introduced sneakers to a whole new consumer base.
Nowadays, hip-hop artists such as Drake, Kanye West, and Travis Scott are frequent collaborators in the sneaker world. No official release information has been announced for the Nike Air Max Plus “Mixtape,” however, with official product images available, it shouldn’t be long before we find out more.
