Nominations for the 89th Academy Awards have been unveiled, and as many expected, it's La La Land which looks primed to dominate. The neo-musical has picked up 14 nominations, tying with All About Eve and Titanic for the most nominations ever.

The movie is nominated for best picture, best original screenplay, and best directing, while protagonists Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling could both take home best acting awards. Elsewhere in the best picture category, there are nods for Moonlight, Manchester by the Sea, Lion, Fences, Hell or High Water, Hidden Figures, Hacksaw Ridge and sci-fi thriller, Arrival.

Aided to Moonlight being nominated for best picture, most heartening is the fact the ceremony appears to have ended its so-called "diversity drought" after two years. Denzel Washington, Ruth Negga, Mahershala Ali, Ruth Negga, Naomie Harris, Octavia Spencer, and Viola Davis are all up for gongs.

In terms of surprises, Amy Adams misses out in the best actor category despite her universally acclaimed performance in the aforementioned Arrival, while Aaron Taylor-Johnson — fresh off winning a golden globe — has also been overlooked. Deadpool and Martin Scorsese's historical drama, Silence, are two titles which surprisingly picked up no nominations.

For the entire breakdown of nominees for each category, scroll below. The awards ceremony takes place on February 26.
