Fancy a bit of golf? How about a round backdropped by the Eternal City? Decked in Loro Piana you say? Load up the golf buggy, we’re hitting the green.

Loro Piana was the official uniform supplier for Team Europe at this year’s Ryder Cup, which took place at the Marco Simone Golf & Country Club in Rome from September 29th to October 1st. The Ryder Cup, the world’s biggest golf competition for the non-golfers among us, came to Rome, Italy for the latest edition, a fitting locale given the Ryder Cup’s own prestige and storied history in the golf world.

The Ryder Cup began in 1927 with a match between American and British golfers. Initially, the US dominated, but following a hiatus during World War II, it resumed in 1947, with the new addition of Irish players. By 1979, continental European golfers joined, creating "Team Europe,” and giving the event its contemporary outline.

The Ryder Cup has seen intense competition, with legendary golfers like Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Seve Ballesteros, and Tiger Woods all leaving their own marks on the event. Recent matches, like the "Miracle at Medinah" in 2012 and Team Europe's 2018 victory added to its rich history.

Since 2016, when Loro Piana first designed Team Europe's official uniforms, the Ryder Cup has served as a testing ground for state-of-the-art fabrics in the challenging environment for top-level athletes. The Maison aims to bring its six-generation legacy of craftsmanship, attention to detail, and use of natural fibers to outstanding golfing sportswear, combining innate elegance with extraordinary performance.

The new Team Europe clothing has set a new standard of tailoring in golf, offering outstanding style, functionality, and comfort. 3D technology has been employed for the first time to simulate clothing reactions during swings, ensuring ease of movement during play. The collection includes a short-sleeved polo, a high-neck shirt with zipper, a waterproof vest, and four-pocket trousers, all designed with meticulous care.

The color palette draws inspiration from the Italian flag, the European Union flag, and the House's signature kummel shade. Contrasting colors highlight the athletes' movements with elegance and style. Collector's items featuring Team Europe uniforms with player logos are available exclusively in Loro Piana's Rome boutique, allowing golf enthusiasts and fashion aficionados to experience the refinement, innovation, and comfort of this elegant sportswear collection.

For golf-fanatics who attended the event, hours long stretches of world-class golfing were punctuated with Italian fine dining in sumptuous settings. Kicking the event off with a celebration of craftsmanship at the newly renovated Loro Piana store on Via Condotti, guests tucked in to a meticulously crafted dinner at Il San Lorenzo. Day two featured a unique golf experience in the Loro Piana lounge, followed by a private visit to Palazzo Pallavinci. Day three included a private tour of Villa Medici, emphasizing nature's influence on architecture and art, and a return to the golf course.

The final day celebrated Europe's victory in the golf tournament, culminating an event that beautifully combined Loro Piana's elegance, Rome's artistry, and nature's beauty. The crucial point that sealed Europe's victory was secured by Tommy Fleetwood during an intense afternoon at the Marco Simone Golf & Country Club. Despite Europe maintaining a commanding lead throughout the singles matches and never falling behind, the US made a valiant effort to mount a remarkable comeback.

Loro Piana doesn't limit its golf attire to those who qualify to play for the Ryder Cup. Beyond the official uniforms for Team Europe, they've also inspired a special line of apparel for golfing enthusiasts. The Golf Capsule Collection is available only in their Rome boutique starting from September 22nd.
