Uniqlo’s parent company Fast Retailing announces that it will be significantly cutting down on the utilization of single-use plastic handed to customers at its Group stores worldwide. This includes reducing wasteful shopping bags and product packaging by 85 percent, or roughly 7,800 tons annually, by the end of 2020.

On September 1, stores in 12 markets worldwide will begin using eco-friendly paper bags made of FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified recycled paper, while they will also be selling branded eco-friendly reusable bags for $0.10 per paper bag starting in January of 2020.

The initiative coincides with Fast Retailing’s efforts to create a sustainable business with consideration for the environment, as they continue to eliminate all forms of waste, specifically single-use plastic due to its overwhelming environmental pollution.

Not NYC, not LA.
