Editor’s Notes: Vans has collaborated with sneaker customizers The Flying Hawk Studio and Simple Union to deliver a capsule of its Classics silhouettes updated to pay homage to traditional Japanese culture.

Titled “Series of Craft And Cultural," the series is a collection of kicks decorated with references to Japanese iconography and culture via intricate graphics. The Classic Slip-On, for example, features a kitsune mask on one foot and a Dharma tumbler on the other. The kitsune (the Japanese word for fox) is the spiritual messenger of the Inari god of agriculture. The Dharma tumbler, meanwhile, is symbolic of good fortune.

The custom collection comprises six sneakers in total. The first pair, the Classic Slip-On, can be preordered via Simple Union now ahead of an August delivery.
