It's not often you come across a guardhouse so aesthetically on point you'd happily move into it, but the Desert Palisades Guardhouse from Studio SR&D Architects isn't your standard brick-and-mortar situation.

Serving as the entryway to a community of yet to be built chic homes overlooking Palm Springs, the guardhouse is built from steel and concrete — raw, durable materials that complement and interact with the surrounding desert environment. As the corten steel weathers over time, the exterior will age naturally, forming a gorgeous rust patina that reflects the backdrop.

The materials have been left without embellishments and remain in their truest form, while elsewhere the roof skims the top of a giant boulder, but the two forms do not touch.
