JOOPITER, the digital-first auction platform founded by Pharrell Williams, opened the bidding for its seventh sale on May 1 entitled JOYRIDE that celebrates the world of motorsport design and the art of the humble automobile.

Teaming up with New York-based curatorial space and collectible automobile specialist Morton Street Partners, JOOPITER is auctioning eleven cars, including a Daniel Arsham-designed Porsche 911 Turbo 930A that’s estimated to collect up to $800,000.

“The 930A was one of my first projects with Porsche and was instantly recognized as an icon within the Porsche community,” Arsham told Highsnobiety.

“The car was really built with all my passion and insight into the history of Porsche motorsport. The car has so many niche details that are satisfying for viewers to catch.

"Every single part of this vehicle was redone or altered from an original Porsche 930, it’s a really special car.”

Other vehicles up for auction include a 1993 Mercedes-Benz Ojas G-Wagon Overland Truck, a 1997 Ferrari 550 Maranello, and a BMW 328i that’s been transformed into a driving work of art as part of artist Kenny Scharf's "Karbombz!" series.

“With a pulse on contemporary culture, the art market and ‘new’ luxury, JOOPITER is the auction house for the modern collector, and both the new and traditional collecting categories they are interested in,” said Caitlin Donovan, Global Head of Sale at JOOPITER.

“JOYRIDE, in line with Pharrell and JOOPITER’s core principles, is a modern approach to a very traditional market that focuses on each car's cultural relevance, current market trends, the influence of the ‘80s and ‘90s, and importance of the relationship between each item being sold and their owner.”

JOOPITER was founded by Pharrell in late 2022 with a vision to “embrace the energy that is released when objects change hands” and “respect the value that’s been created around these objects.”

Now, with JOYRIDE, digital-first platform embarks on its biggest and most ambitious JOOPITER auction to date — one that’s also expected to see an astronomical amount of dollars exchange hands.

The auction, which will be open for global bidding until May 8 at JOOPITER.com, will also be viewable by appointment at Morton Street Partners’ NYC showroom.

“Pharrell’s goal was to create a platform to embrace the energy that is released when objects change hands,” added Donovan. “It’s also to celebrate the value that is created around these objects from their cultural relevance, history, and consignors.”
