Louis Vuitton has officially announced tennis star Naomi Osaka as its newest ambassador. Osaka will make her debut in the house's Spring/Summer 2021 campaign photographed by Nicolas Ghesquière, Louis Vuitton’s Artistic Director of Women’s Collections.

”Aside from tennis, my most treasured passion is fashion; and there is no brand more iconic than Louis Vuitton," said Osaka. "It is such an honor to work with Nicolas - he’s a designer I admire so much and we share a mutual love of Japanese culture and style. To become global brand ambassador is truly a dream come true for me.”

The 23-year-old tennis champion discussed the partnership further on Instagram, revealing how she bought her mother a Louis Vuitton bag for her birthday many years ago, a gesture that ultimately spawned a tradition. "Do I call this a full circle moment?," she questioned.

In a press release, the luxury fashion house described Osaka as "perfectly incarnating the Louis Vuitton woman," multi-faceted, independent, and modern. Ghesquière then went on to add, “Naomi is an exceptional woman who represents her generation and is also a role model for everyone. Her career and convictions are inspiring. I am in awe of Naomi, she stays true to herself and doesn’t compromise on her values.”

Osaka was recently named the Associated Press Female Athlete of the Year. Throughout 2020, she consistently used her platform as a professional athlete to speak out on topics of racial injustice and police brutality on her way to winning the U.S. Open for her third Grand Slam title.

Be sure to stay tuned to see what Naomi Osaka and Louis Vuitton have in store.
