This week Stone Island presents the latest addition to its Prototype Research Series, a range of limited edition garments centering around fabrics and/or treatments from experimentation processes that have yet to be industrialized. The brand is referring to its newest portion as “SERIES 04_MANUAL FLOCKING ON NYLON METAL GRID-OVD,” offering a fishtail parka in Nylon Metal, which is the iconic iridescent Stone Island fabric.
Here, Stone Island sprays the parka with a water-based adhesive, leaving an electromagnetic field to straighten the fibrils. The jacket is then subject to an elaborate double dyeing procedure to provide it with contrasting colors between the nylon and the cotton flock. The flock will then wear off naturally leaving it with a new look. As it is impossible to exactly replicate this process, each garment is left unique to itself.
Stone Island will be releasing its new color-changing fishtail parka online beginning this Thursday, May 23.
