Supreme’s lookbook for the SS18 season just dropped and, while the brand’s first in-house line of suits were the highlight of the collection, there’s also a strong undercurrent of political opinion. Martin Luther King and his iconic “I Have a Dream” speech headline Supreme’s call for revolution and political and social justice.

The late activist was an important figure in the American civil rights movement of the ’50s and ’60s, alongside Muhammad Ali and Malcom X, before he was assassinated in 1968.

The Baptist minister and activist, along with excerpts from his famous speech (which you can watch below), are the centerpiece of a trio of graphic hoodies, while King’s face is also printed on a zip-up flannel shirt.

King’s inclusion isn’t the only political statement within the collection. Supreme is also dropping a “justice” gold pendant, a molotov pin, and a reprint of the infamous “illegal business” hoodie from 2003 and 2007.

Supreme, as a skate brand, has always had a radical and rebellious side to it. Never shy to express its opinion, the brand dropped Obama-graphic pants and shirts last year, as well as a “Fuck the President” keychain after Donald Trump was elected president. In the past, Supreme had released “Fuck Bush” box logo stickers, as well.

With the political landscape in the United States best described as shaky, these particular Supreme items are statement pieces in every sense of the word.
