Tom Hardy has signed on for two more Venom films, revealing that the Spider-Man spin-off is actually a trilogy.
“We’ve signed up for three [Venom films], so it’s very much an open case,” Hardy revealed to Total Film Magazine. The trilogy being realized, of course, depends on the first installment’s box office performance. “We’ll see what people’s responses are to it,” he continued. “I think it’s an awesome character. I love playing both of them.”
By “both of them,” Hardy is referencing his character, Eddie Brock, who shares his body with a villainous alien symbiote with superpowers. Watch him bite someone’s head off in the trailer below.
“We’re all prepped for it to be a standalone universe,” Hardy went on to state. “So whatever Sony want to attach to it at a later date, it’s a fulcrum piece. But let’s see what happens when it lands.”
