Milan-based brand UNITED STANDARD might just be two years old, but the label, helmed by art director, Giorgio Di Salvo, is making strong waves amongst an increasingly saturated, contemporary menswear market. With a strong focus on technical details and practical elements, each collection uses atypical materials — such as insulated Mylar — as its point of departure.

Di Salvo then applies a mechanic-like, aesthetic dexterity to his off-kilter material choices, producing robust pieces that promise refined aesthetics and pragmatic functionality in equal measure.

For its SS17 drop of engineered streetwear staples, UNITED STANDARD pays homage to a shamefully overlooked craftsman of the industrial age – the mechanic. Take a look through its latest lookbook above, and pour over its sartorial salute to "body shop" culture.

Everything from the form of its long-sleeve T-shirts to heavy-duty tote bags to the collection’s overarching graphic treatment is a rough, tough ode to the complex, internal systems of cars, and the steely concentration of a mechanic, who has always made things run.
