For the first time since Yves Saint Laurent in 1983, the Met Gala will be focusing on a living designer, in the form of legendary Japanese designer Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garçons.
Most excitingly, the exhibition will include the full CdG archive, meaning you’ll be able to check out over 120 of Kawakubo’s famous womenswear designs spanning from her debut 1981 collection to her recent works. Additionally, the garments will be arranged by contrasting themes such as the past versus the present and male versus female to further examine Kawakubo’s fascination with “in-betweenness.”
If you’re interested in checking out the full exhibit, be sure to head over to The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York on May 4.
