Editor’s Notes: adidas has tapped New York City chef, restaurateur, and food personality Eddie Huang for an Ultra Boost to celebrate Chinese New Year.

The New Year celebrations kick off tomorrow, February 5, and the sneaker is dressed accordingly in all-red with gold accents — two very important colors in Chinese culture. Red is synonymous with Chinese New Year and celebration in general, symbolizing good luck. Gold, meanwhile, represents wealth and good financial fortune.

The sneaker features an Ultra Boost 1.0 Primeknit upper pattern, as well as an added leather mudguard around the toe box. The leather components — also including the heel cup and cage — give the sneaker a premium feel.

Huang posted an all-red, all-adidas ’fit pic on Instagram (below), explaining the significance of his adidas collaboration.

He wrote, “As an Overseas Taiwanese-Chinese, my favorite part of Chinese New Year has always been introducing our culture and values to friends. Since I was a kid, my neighbors would come through, try our food, set off fireworks, and chase away evil spirits.

“To celebrate those experiences, [adidas], myself, @jillionaire @walshyfire @drewbyrd and @moranmorangallery are throwing an INTERSECTIONAL AFRO-CARRIBEAN CHINEE BOYZ BBQ highlighting the cultural exchange thats been happening in Overseas Chinese communities from Taiwan to Trinidad to Jamaica to Cuba and Paris or Argentina and beyond.”
