Editor’s Notes: Dover Street Market's bookstore IDEA and footwear brand Rombaut have teamed up on a padlock-clad take on the latter’s Boccaccio vegan leather sneaker. The sneaker keeps design details to a minimum, only embossing "IDEA" on the heel and featuring Rombaut branding on the side. The colorful padlock on the tongue sits in stark contrast to an almost all-white sneaker.
IDEA’s David Owen says, “We always wanted to do a sneaker collaboration where we didn’t change anything. The Rombaut Classic Vegan Leather Boccaccio is a perfect shoe.” On the thinking behind the padlock, Owen adds, “It unlocks with the code ‘IDEA.’ We liked the idea that someone coveting the shoes might try and steal them.”
Mats Rombaut says, “I instantly loved the padlock idea, something that is reusable and functional, a little souvenir of our collaboration."
Just 20 pairs will be available at the Vegan Postmodern installation at Dover Street Market London from June 13 to June 20, with no information available as yet about a wider release.
