A year after leaving Apple, Jony Ive has teamed up with Airbnb for a multi-year partnership. The news was announced this week on Airbnb.com, as co-founder and CEO Brian Chesky gushed about Apple's former chief design officer.

While specifics have yet to be revealed, Chesky shared that Ive and his partners at LoveFrom will be working on a "special collaboration" with the Airbnb team in a multi-year partnership to design the "next generation of Airbnb products and services." He then touched on his relationship with Ive, informing that the two have been friends for years.

"We share the same belief in the value and importance of creativity and design," Chesky said. "We each believe not only in making objects and interfaces, but in crafting services and experiences. We’ve seen how design can facilitate trust and enable more human connection, something people are desperate for during an unprecedented time of loneliness and disconnection."

Ive will also be aiding in the development of Airbnb's internal design team, as reports reveal three designers recently left the company and design chief Alex Schleifer has transitioned to a part-time role.

"I hope all of this speaks to the seriousness of our design-driven approach," Chesky concluded. "We believe that working together will be an important and powerful creative partnership. We’re both excited about the ideas we already have, as well as ideas that are currently beyond our imagination."
