Moncler

The Moncler Genius project has created quite the stir since it was unveiled in February 2018. Conceived to skirt around the traditional bi-annual format of delivering collections in favor of regular drops, the project has seen some of the most exceptional minds in fashion reinterpret Moncler's DNA through their own creative lenses. The latest collection to drop is the 6 Moncler Noir Kei Ninomiya collection, designed by Comme des Garçons alumni and Noir’s Kei Ninomiya.

Having already presented a Moncler Genius collection back in February 2018, the 6 Moncler Noir Kei Ninomiya collection is the second from the acclaimed designer and his namesake brand. Building on the aesthetic established by the preceding drop, the driving principle remains its technical challenge and the painstaking complexity with which the seemingly simple and easy-to-wear silhouettes are made.

In line with Ninomiya’s tendency for unconventional assembly techniques, the collection is centered around the idea of repetition and modularity. Making heavy use of nylon and leathers, silhouettes are constructed from smaller geometric patterns, which are replicated and joined together by miniature metal rings to form entire garments. The juxtaposition of smooth with ruffled textures, matt with patent fabrics, and hits of metal and studs with floral detailing results in a collection that is at once romantic, futuristic, yet with a dark, punk inflection.

Unveiled in February 2019, the third and most acclaimed series so far has delivered collections from revered designers including, among others, Craig Green, Simone Rocha, Fragment’s Hiroshi Fujiwara, and Palm Angels as well as new and highly anticipated names such as 1017 ALYX 9SM’s Matthew Williams and Richard Quinn.

The Moncler Genius Noir Kei Ninomiya collection is available now from Moncler boutiques, moncler.com, and in selective retailers worldwide.
