The latest highly anticipated Moncler Genius collection is coming your way this month and this one is with Comme des Garçons alumni Kei Ninomiya and his brand Noir.
Moncler first revealed the Moncler Genius project back in February and last month dropped the first collection with Hiroshi Fujiwara and Fragment Design. Following this as part of Moncler’s monthly release schedule, Ninomiya’s experimental interpretation of the Genius concept will be available from July 25.
Ninomiya’s approach involves highly intricate geometric patterns made wearable from both a functional and aesthetic perspective. Using nylon and leather, the designer assembled individual modules that when combined push the limits of duvet through fabric manipulation and hours of painstaking craft. The resulting silhouettes are punk-like yet romantic with feminine shapes spanning a range of round skirts, stoles, cropped jackets, long coats, and boots.
To add to each garment’s surprising and unique look, Ninomiya has used various techniques such as intarsia, quilting, stitching, appliqué, and ruffling to create decorative yet geometric movements all over the surfaces. The overall effect is one of dark romanticism, amplified by the shiny, futuristic black used throughout the collection.
“Moncler Genius is a challenge of innovation and a progressive project in every respect. It allowed me the opportunity to develop new techniques of down. Progress always stems from the way things are made,” explains Kei Ninomiya.
Adding to that, Moncler Genius is a grand composite of extraordinary minds spanning eight collections and united by the desire to innovate and create the new. Tasked with bringing to life the various aspects of the Moncler’s identity, talented creative figures have stepped forward to bring their unique vision and interpretation of the brand’s DNA. “We have chosen designers that differ greatly from each other as we have always spoken to different generations”, says Remo Ruffini, Chairman and CEO of Moncler.
The Moncler Genius Noir Kei Ninomiya FW18/19 collection is available for a limited time from July 25 at all Moncler boutiques, moncler.com, and doverstreetmarket.com. Moncler and Kei Ninomiya will be hosting a launch event at Dover Street Market Tokyo Ginza on July 24. From July 30, the collection will drop at select retailers in-store and online.
