What We’re Saying: One of the year's most in-demand sneakers is getting a new look. After previously appearing in a gang of two-toned colorways, the New Balance 550 is finally slated for a multicolored release.

New Balance first solicited Aimé Leon Dore to help revive the late '80s court model in 2020. Since then, NB has gone on to unleash a number of general release colorways, all while working with additional brands like size? on more enticing collaborations.

The "Multicolor" 550 gives us all a much-welcomed break from the white and — insert any other color here — makeups. Although this particular colorway boasts a white leather base, too, it's livened up by accenting shades of red, green, navy, and yellow.

As New Balance puts it, the 550 is "simple and clean, not overbuilt," serving as a nod to pro basketball players of the '90s and the streetwear that defined a hoops generation. More specifically, the "Multicolor" iteration draws inspiration from the colors and courts of playgrounds all across the world. "Every court is unique. We have a color for all of them," the brand says.

Look for the "Multicolor" 550 to release on May 22 through New Balance and select retailers.
