Takashi Murakami

Takashi Murakami will release six limited-edition screen prints to raise funds for the Black Lives Matter movement. The exact pricing and launch details are to be announced in the following weeks, however, the total raised is expected to exceed $1 million in charitable contributions.

Eschewing his signature palette of vibrant pop colors, Murakami instead depicts his classic flower and skull characters in a monochrome style, with each print signed and spray-painted by the artist himself. The collection will be available in July via the NTWRK app with 100 percent of proceeds going to organizations including Black Lives Matter, Equal Justice Initiative, and Color of Change.

In a statement regarding the global protests against racial injustices, Murakami said, "I have said that a role of an artist is to discern the present and express it for the future audience. But if my art can effect any change here and now, I want to contribute it not only to give back but to give power to the Black community plagued by the racial injustice."
