Editor's Notes: Community group "The Basement" has come a long way since its early Facebook days. Over the past few years, we've witnessed it climb to 258k followers on Instagram, launching several in-house merchandise drops, and offer unique takes on classic footwear silhouettes.

Its first collaborative shoe, the Nike Dunk Low BSMNT, came in 2017. In 2019 was the three-piece Nike Air Max 90 City Pack, which spotlit London, Manchester, and Glasgow through the lens of creatives in each city.

Each release has seen The Basement (BSMNT) experiment heavily with the fabrication applications of the silhouette in question, choosing to shy away from what would be considered the norm. By the looks of this upcoming pair of New Balance 2002R's, this direction is maintained.

The BSMNT 2002R comes in two colors, olive green, and grey, each of which highlights the silhouette's intricate layers through subtly contrasting shades. A sneaker typically built on a mesh base, this iteration opts for suede and nubuck, the latter of which is sharply blocked in black at the toe and heel on both colorways. For the finishing touch, the iconic New Balance "N" logo is only partly stitched, evoking the DIY aesthetic of the BSMNT Air Max 90 "London."

With WTAPS and Alpha Industries (to name a few) serving up hot takes on NB silhouettes recently, it appears that there is still a long line of yet-to-be-seen collabs on the horizon.
