adidas and Manchester United are celebrating Chinese New Year with a commemorative kit and complementary apparel. Leading the release is an eye-catching red jersey with a large dragon print.

The jersey won’t be worn on the pitch by the team, rather it is a special-edition jersey created in collaboration with EA Sports and will be available on FIFA 20 alongside Chinese New Year-themed kits from other adidas-sponsored teams.

While eye-catching, the dragon motif has the potential to split opinions, which is no doubt the point of the collaboration. Last year, Manchester United was part of a group of teams that got special edition EA Sports jerseys. That time, the kit featured an all-over leopard print graphic.

In addition to the kit, adidas has created a range of apparel, including a crewneck with dual branding on the chest, a short-sleeve top with similar motifs, and a red jacket with gold markings. The “off-field” apparel is decidedly less gaudy, with discreet graphics hinting at the Chinese New Year theme.

The dragon-emblazoned jersey retails for approximately $95, and the entire Manchester United Chinese New Year collection by adidas will be released through Manchester United’s online store and at select adidas retailers on January 25.
