The year is 1987, your mom’s dragging you out to watch Dirty Dancing at the cinema, your car journey soundtracked by Rick Astley and Whitney Houston. On your way, you roll past your favorite sneaker store and your world changes forever. Some guy called Tinker Hatfield has just designed the Nike Air Max 1 which features a visible air bubble to the heel.

Fast-forward to the present day. 35 years later, the Nike Air Max silhouette is just as popular as it was. An impressive feat in a world defined by innovation and technological leaps. Even against the lab-made uppers and sole units of 2022, few sneaker families come close to the success of the Air Max. To celebrate the emerald anniversary of footwear’s North Star, Nike just dropped the Nike Air Max 90 Emerald.

A white mesh base forms the foundation for denim overlays characterized by a beautiful patina. Highlights in Emerald outline the Swoosh, air window, eyelets, tongue, and outsole to give the shoe its name.

As always, Nike is on the ball when it comes to collector-favorite detailing. On the Nike Air Max 90 Emerald, that comes in the form of an embroidered XXXV to the heel and an exclusive emerald graphic to the tongue tab.

Not only is the Air Max 90 Emerald a moment in sneaker history, celebrating a story that we’re all part of, but it’s also a great design for spring. As we start to usher some color back into our wardrobe, the Emerald hits of this design play into the season’s hands. We’re also excited to wear this pair hard to discover what the future holds for the denim overlays. They're set to settle nicely into being our everyday staples this year.
