Following seven days of hype and anticipation, adidas’s ACE 16+ “Blue Blast” soccer-cum-lifestyle sneaker was released yesterday. As expected, the rare colorway attracted quite a bit of attention from the sneaker community, with resellers sniffing out the limited-edition drop as a prime opportunity for some flipping. adidas, however, had other ideas.
“adidas-Group will not sell product to any person who Adidas believes intends to resell merchandise,” read a sign placed near the door. The warning continued, “The store manager reserves the right to professionally inquire the intent of customer’s attempting to purchase large or frequent purchases” and that, “if the sale appears to be reseller related based on size, content or frequency of purchases, the sale must be refused.” It goes without saying that some in attendance weren’t best pleased.
Despite the caution, seemingly no one had any issues with snagging the kicks. According to reports, the laws went unenforced, which would explain why the sneakers are already being sold for upwards of $300 on eBay right now.
