The term “Quiet Please” has long been a phrase associated with tennis because of the sport’s rules and traditions, but adidas and Pharrell are looking to upend that idea by subverting this notion on the courts. In a fresh new campaign designed to engage the local community and inspire change through love and positivity, QUIET PLEASE will challenge the status quo by encouraging people to speak up and let their voices be heard, which is core to Pharrell’s manifesto:

“Every tennis match starts with the same two words: ‘Quiet Please’.
But change can be noisy and our love can transform anything.
Outside the court we will let our voices be heard as loud as we can.
If you see the potential for good, speak up.
Together, we can change the game for the better.”

To this end, starting Monday, August 28, adidas will provide New Yorkers with a unique platform to let their voices be heard. Using the umpire’s chair as a physical and symbolic icon of QUIET PLEASE, adidas has commissioned ten of these chairs to be scattered around ten different locations in NYC so that locals can partake and express themselves as loudly as possible. To top it off, select umpire stations will feature special guest performances that’ll be announced tomorrow.

As Pharrell explains, “New York has never been good at being quiet, so we will make our voices heard.” With this ethos, the Three Stripes brand, Pharrell, and you the people will hopefully change the game for the better.
