For our latest Highsnobiety sneaker shopping entry, What Drops Now chief Nigel Minani shares 6 of his favorite beer & puke-resistant sneakers; in light of Germany’s soon-to-come Oktoberfest shenanigans, a complimentary shopping list only seemed fitting.
A walking encyclopedia of footwear knowledge, Nigel’s seal of approval is as good as any. Models this week include the classic Air Max 1 in its OG colorway, and some fashion-tech joints from OAMC.
Peep the choices below, and head over to What Drops Now for further browsing.
“Another nice iteration of the One Star. It looks similar to the already released versions, but no! It has a nice rubber overlay detail on the sides to protect the canvas upper while skateboarding. Also it has improved cushioning thanks to the Pro insoles. One of the best One Stars that released – if you ask me – and no one even noticed them. It’s a shame.”
“Another low-key, lit collaboration that didn’t get the media attention it deserves. Han managed to update a classic and put on his own twist without loosing the soul. The b-boys in the ’80s would’ve gone crazy for this one. Definitely a sleek everyday silhouette you won’t see on every corner.”
“This is where it all started for me. I’m too young to have witnessed the original release, but the AM1 is an Icon. If you think of yourself as a so-called sneakerhead, you should own a pair of these. I mean this is Tinker Hatfield’s very first footwear design and also a ground-breaking one at the time. Nike even managed to get the beloved original shape back for it’s 30 year anniversary. If you don’t have a pair already, you should treat yourself to a piece of history!”
“Suede upper, a rubber toecap and text branding. It’s an instant classic. Copped.”
“You have to love OAMC’s technical approach to fashion, and this heavy, chunky, ugly sneaker is a great example. It’s heavy, has straps and a Vibram sole. Perfectly on trend, and made from durable materials. This one’s for you edgy people!”
