WWD has announced that Alexander Wang and adidas are set to unveil a new collaborative line this September at New York Fashion Week.

Wang will follow Yohji Yamamoto, Kanye West, Raf Simons, Rick Owens and Stella McCartney to become the latest high-profile designer to join forces with the Three Stripes. The news may not seem so surprising given that many haute couture designers are now designing for sportwear labels, but an anonymous source told us that Wang had actually produced a finished collection with Nike some two or three years ago, only for it to be scrapped for undisclosed reasons.

Given Wang’s relatively successful sportswear-infused collection with Swedish retail giant H&M in 2014, and the fact that adidas is seemingly doing everything right at the minute, there may be a few raised eyebrows over at Nike if the collection is to be another success.

Wang’s forthcoming show at New York Fashion Week is scheduled for September 10, but there will likely be leaks and announcements before then. Both adidas and Wang have yet to comment. Stay tuned for more information.

Meanwhile, adidas Originals by White Mountaineering has finally unveiled its new collection.
