Editor’s Notes: Storied New England-based sneaker company New Balance celebrates the 30th anniversary of the quintessential 574 sneaker—first released in 1988. This version channels the old-school appeal with a modern sleekness, decreasing the toe height and updating the materials. It's noticeably more streamlined than the 574s we all know and love. This particular pair—done up in New Balance's trademark neutral gray palette—is part of a friends and family pack.
Limited to 88 pairs (commemorating the sneaker's 1988 release), the exclusive kicks feature gold embroidery on the tongue and heel, and plush leather lining and a leather footbed. It was sent in a slanted square box meant to emulate the italicized “N” in New Balance's logo. It also came with a coordinating coaches jacket, with “Classic” emblazoned in reflective print on the back, and a modern sport coat. The sport coat is made with a three-button stance and features casual patch pockets, a tech fabric, and taped seam details.
Expect to see more of this new 574 silhouette as the shoe company continues to mark this momentous occasion.
