Sportswear brand ASICS has unveiled its “Blackout Track” in London. The Blackout Track is the world's first running track that aims to free the runner from distraction, so you're not just training your fitness, but your mind. That means no tech, no music, no scenery, no comforts, and — perhaps the most disorientating to goal-orientated souls — no finish line.
The track was designed in collaboration with sports scientists and coaches. As well as unveiling the track, ASICS launched the ASICS GEL-Kayano 25 runner, claiming that this is "the shoe that helps runners win the mental race." The silhouette is the 25th iteration of the Kayano and features new FlyteFoam Lyte and FlyteFoam Propel Technologies. The idea being that these technologies "work in parallel to deliver superior protection and enhanced stability no matter the distance."
As well as acting as the launch pad for the GEL-Kayano 25, the lightless Blackout Track will also be home to various events, including a 10k "mental marathon" with participation from Olympic medallist and American record holder Deena Kastor, and a host of other athletes and influencers.
The brand will share the results from the event on June 25. To find out more, head over to ASICS online.
