October 23rd is the the National day of the Croc; the next closest thing to getting an actual holiday to celebrate the colorful clogs. The climax of what has been the month of Croctober (October, who?), this occasion belongs to friends of the infamous rubber sandal, only.

In the 20+ years since they were born, Crocs have made an indelible dent in culture. In honor of this ongoing phenomenon, let's quickly break down and trace back the influence the shoe has had on fashion, shall we?

Since their inception in the early 2000s, they've become a symbol for the unapologetic embrace of unconventional beauty. In defiance of adversaries, the Croc has become a shapeshifting muse to some of the most revered tastemakers in the world; of style and beyond.

It's really no surprise though, when you think about it, that the Croc has us in such a chokehold. Aside from its bedazzlebility and its many (species- and activity-spanning) variations – including, but not limited to – gorp-y and outdoorsy kinds, boots, high heeled or even plushy versions, the Crocs clog is nothing short of a deity in the religion that is antifashion.
