Editor’s Notes: After months of leaks and teasers, the black version of Jerry Lorenzo’s first original Nike sneaker dropped in the United States on December 15. Now, the “Light Bone” version comes out today, January 19, at UNKNWN and at other retailers.

The European release for both colorways got postponed in December, with both kicks also dropping today.

The Fear of God 1 combines Lorenzo’s distinctive design language with a number of features taken from popular Nike silhouettes. The Air bubble in the heel is reminiscent of the Air Max 180’s rectangular Air window, while the lacing cage is inspired by the Air Huarache Light.

Lorenzo worked with Leo Chang, senior footwear design director at Nike Basketball, to help balance his aesthetic vision with high-performance technology.

“It is a shoe that should only be judged by the emotion it gives the kid when he first sees it — however it makes him feel,” says Lorenzo. “In my youth, growing up in the ’80s and finishing high school in the ’90s, contrary to what's happening now, it was our superstar athletes and our pro athletes that were informing the way that we wore our street clothes. These athletes, like Agassi and Jordan, were at the top of their game and what they wore didn’t compromise on design or beauty.”
