What We’re Saying: Snow Peak is making improving the first Niobium Concept look easy. Trust us, it’s not.

Snow Peak and New Balance have unveiled their latest (and fourth overall) collaboration in the Niobium Concept 2. The project builds on the original Niobium sneaker, which was a fully modular, 3-in-1 sneaker that could be transformed from boot to sneaker to mule. The Concept 2 keeps things outdoors but turns its focus to the ultimate summer essential: the sandal.

The Concept 2 uses the sole unit from one of New Balance’s most popular outdoors sneakers in the trail-running Fresh Foam Hierro and combines it with a Fidlock-equipped upper. The sandal can be turned from sandal to mule by detaching the heel strap.

The project’s theme is called “Home to Camp,” highlighting the versatility of the functional footwear. The theme is reflected in the colorway, which mixes olive hues with black, which represent the nature surrounding campgrounds and the asphalt roads of cities, respectively.

Due to the Concept 2’s multi-functional design, you’ll be able to securely walk trails and even go hiking in what is essentially a sandal, while still benefiting from the breathability and relaxed comfort that sandals are known for. Hiking in the morning and lounging by the lake in the evening, all with the click of a Fidlock buckle.

The Snow Peak x New Balance Niobium Concept 2 drops June 25, in-store only. Stay tuned for information on a wider release. In the meantime, shop more New Balance at Highsnobiety below.
