Sneakerheads around the globe would've been mortified had they seen Chinese designer Zhijun Wang cutting up and seemingly destroying a perfectly good pair of YEEZY Boost 350 V2s, but then they wouldn't have known what he was planning to create — this dope "Beluga" face mask.

Wang is based in Beijing and has managed to turn this year's hottest release into a tool with which to battle the city's crippling pollution problem. Citizens are advised to wear the masks, but until now have lacked fashionable choices.

Wang says the masks are both very comfortable and entirely functional, and are currently generating a whole lot of heat on Instagram.

Given that the shoe is so sought-after, it would seem unlikely that Wang will create the masks for purchase on a large scale. Let us know what you think in the comments and see a few more of his creations below.
