Where the runway meets the street

Kanye West officially presented his YEEZY Season 2 during New York Fashion Week last September. It was supposed to be the first apparel collection by West since launching YEEZY, produced by his team rather than adidas, who was still in charge for YEEZY Season 1. As it turns out, that transition is not working out to be too smooth yet. YEEZY Season 2 was supposed to release for Spring/Summer 2016, but if you keep in mind that most high fashion brands release their fall collections already in May and June, and that YEEZY Season 2 has still not delivered any product this season, then one notices that they have sort of missed the window this season. Yesterday, finally the first official announcement from the brand’s new president has been made on the matter towards retailers.

First of all YEEZY Season 2 will not be produced in its entirety. Select capsules from the collection will be rolled out sometime this year as part of a new season-less model moving forward. Furthermore the announcement states that the first release will actually be the YEEZY footwear, with a release date set for June 6, and that this roll-out does not effect YEEZY Season 3 plans.

Having seen YEEZY Season 2 and Season 3 in detail, we are not surprised about the turn of events. Season 2 feels a bit like a filler collection, when compared to a much larger Season 1 and Season 3. Season 3 properly picks up after Season 1, offering a full range of product, including fantastic outerwear, accessories and more, where Season 2 was very minimal in offering and with close to no product highlights. If Season 3 releases according to plan, it remains to be seen if a lot of Season 2 product will launch at all. We will of course keep you posted.
